Home and Away star Matt Evans shares doubts over music career future

Soap star to music star is not out of the ordinary...

Home and Away star Matt Evans has been talking about his love of music – and whether a career as a singer could be on the cards for him in the future.

Matt, a former contestant on The Voice Australia, joined the soap as Theo Poulos last year. He was recently nominated for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent at the Logies – an award that some huge names from the soap world have won in the past.

However, while he loves music, he's shared some doubts about whether a full-time career as a touring musician would be for him.

Speaking in the latest issue of TV Week, Matt said: "I'm really enjoying acting since I started it. It's a new skill that I'm learning and I'm really in it for the ride and enjoying it but music at the same time was always my passion.

"I always wanted to be a musician and a performer, so I think I'm open to either."

But while his love for performing may be strong, the idea of being on the road a lot playing his songs doesn't appeal to Matt.

"I'm not really sure how keen I am on the idea of being a touring artist," he explained.

"I'm really unsure about the whole thing, but I think there's kind of a beauty in that where I can just be open minded and take whatever comes my way.

"It sounds really silly when I say it out loud but I always have this fear of the music industry where I think I'm getting too old to break through," he added.

Matt recently got to show off his musical talent as part of a Home and Away storyline, as Theo impressed Chloe with a song on a picnic together.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
