Home and Away announces new Summer Bay doctor

Home and Away spoilers at UK and Australian pace follow.

Home and Away is welcoming a new doctor to Summer Bay.

New cast member Juliet Godwin will be joining the Channel 5 soap as Dr Bree, who is just as likely to be catching waves on the beaches of Summer Bay as she is saving lives in the emergency room.

Producers describe Dr Bree as "laid-back, kind and caring", but of course, there's more to her story than she's letting on with her bubbly demeanour.

As Dr Bree gets settled into Summer Bay, viewers will learn more about her past – and secrets she may be hiding from her new friends.

Juliet Godwin is a relative newcomer to screens in Australia, having previously appeared in the ABC drama series The Heights in a guest role.

Dr Bree is set to appear on screens in Australia in August, following the mid-season finale for the Commonwealth Games. This break won't impact Home and Away in the UK on Channel 5.

Fans shouldn't worry about Home and Away going anywhere in the UK, full stop! Unlike with Neighbours, Channel 5 boss Ben Frow recently committed to keeping the soap on UK screens as long as it's produced.

"It's a life-of-series deal, so it's not going anywhere until the makers decide to cancel it," the Channel 5 executive told the Radio Times this month.

Channel 5 won the rights to broadcast Home and Away in the UK as part of a bidding war with ITV in 2000 – and the soap has been a staple of the channel ever since.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
