Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant hopes for bigger Jacob storylines

"You wouldn't want scenes of him revising."

Joe-Warren Plant plays Jacob Gallagher in Emmerdale, and is known for being a miraculously well-adjusted character despite being through the many trials we can expect for inhabitants of the village.

Now though, his character is all grown up and taking on new responsibilities, and Joe-Warren is ready for Jacob's plot lines to be amped up.

The actor spoke to Inside Soap about his commitment to the show, and what he sees for Jacob's future.

Speaking about his dedication to the village, he explained: "It wasn't until about three or four years into working at Emmerdale that I realised how lucky I was. When you are so young, you don't understand the calibre of the show.

"But I had around six months off when I wasn't sure if I was going back, and everything started to sink in. I realised how big Emmerdale was and how many people watch it, and I thought: 'Wow, I need to stick and this and take it seriously!'"

And, it turns out there's a practical reason for Jacob not having quite as much screen time, with the character currently undertaking a degree in the hopes of becoming a doctor.

He joked: "Jacob's been pretty quiet – but you wouldn't want scenes of him revising, would you? I'm hoping it'll pick up soon because I miss work when I'm not there. I get lazy, to be honest. I need a purpose for the day to get up. I'm happier when I'm at work."

Joe-Warren's keenness for Jacob to see more action couldn't come at a better time, with his parents going through break ups and personal issues. The actor predicts that this will place Jacob front and centre.

"He's definitely going to be playing a role in those relationships, not to give anything away! He's always there for David and Leyla, and he's going to try to give them some good advice," he said.
