Neighbours star returns to set exactly one year since filming ‘final’ scenes: ‘I can’t believe we’re back’

April Rose Pengilly has returned to the set of Neighbours, one year since she filmed some of her final scenes for the show following its shock and untimely cancellation.

The popular soap, a staple of daytime TV in the UK for 37 years, was controversially axed last year by Channel 5, with the broadcaster citing a desire to make more 'original UK drama'.

Fans, baffled by the decision, swooped into action to save their beloved show, launching fan campaigns and getting the signature theme tune to Number 1 in the UK iTunes Charts.

Despite their efforts, Neighbours wrapped up with star-studded final episode, which saw the likes of Kylie Minogue and Margot Robbie make appearances.

A number of months later, however, the show was resuscitatedby Amazon Freevee, who saw the potential and realised just how popular the beloved soap remains with audiences around the world. Production has already commenced on the revival series, which is set to debut on the ad-supported streaming service later this year.

April, who plays Chloe Brennan, was signed on to return as a guest star, with the actress making her way to Nunawading Studios in Melbourne earlier this week to film her first scenes since the show's broadcast TV finale.
