Hollyoaks star Ashling O'Shea speaks out on Juliet death scenes

"You never forget your first love."

Hollyoaks star Ashling O'Shea, who plays Nadira Valli on the Channel 4 soap, has opened up about Juliet Nightingale's tragic death scenes.

Juliet recently received the heartbreaking news that her cancer is terminal, so her close family and friends – including her ex-girlfriend Nadira – will take part in a movie night in upcoming scenes to show their support for Juliet in her final days.

Opening up about Juliet's imminent death and the effect it will have on Nadira, Ashling said: "It will break her heart. Nadira's mother died of cancer and now the love of her life (so far) is going to die too."

The soap star continued: "This disease has taken two of the most important women in her life, the woman who gave her life and the woman who encouraged her to live a new, freer life in her queerness.

"Nadira is incredibly respectful of family so knows her place is not in the heart of everything, but that also means she will feel alone in the grief and feel like she doesn't have a right to feel it.

"I think this will be something that hurts her for the rest of her life. You never forget your first love."

Ashling explained how Nadira has tried to be "respectful" of Juliet and Peri's relationship by keeping her distance, while supporting them when they need it, adding: "It can't be easy for Peri having Nadira around".

As for what mark Juliet will leave on the village after she passes, Ashling said: "There will be a fiery little hole scorched into the heart of the village in her absence."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
