Neighbours star April Rose Pengilly announces new role after Chloe Brennan exit

 "I’m very excited."

Neighbours star April Rose Pengilly has announced her next role after leaving the Australian soap.

Pengilly, who starred as Chloe Brennan in the Freevee reboot of the show as well as the original, departed following her emotional wedding to Elly Conway (Jodi Gordon).

The fairytale ceremony followed an emotional week for Chloe and Elly after Chloe revealed she was experiencing the symptoms of Huntington's disease. Not deterred by the revelation, Elly walked down the aisle with her and eventually they went off into the sunset together.

Following her guest stint, Pengilly has opened up on her new role in audio series Gripped: Second Son, which is available now on the Listnr app.

Sharing behind-the-scenes snaps and videos recording her part, she captioned the Instagram post: "I’m very excited to announce my role as Amy Haqq in the new gangland audio drama GRIPPED: SECOND SON! Episodes 1 and 2 are available now exclusively on the Listnr app.

"It has been so much [fun] working on this thrilling series with some of the best in the biz!"

The six-part series, created by Australian crime writer Loraine Peck and investigative journalist Mahmood Fazal, also stars Last King of the Cross actor Lincoln Younes and Death in Brunswick's Zoe Carides.

Ahead of her Neighbours exit, Pengilly spoke to  about her real-life engagement to partner Adam Paul after he popped the question in December.

"I had a small inkling! It was definitely not something I was gunning for or anything! We'd spoken about that kind of stuff, but we're so happy where we are, so I'm not somebody who'd put the pressure on. I thought maybe it would happen next year or something," she said.

"But then over the last few weeks, there were a few little clues. He was double-checking when I was going to get my nails done and things like that. I thought I'd better prepare myself just in case!

"I feel like I was a good amount of prepared but still surprised. I'm a girl that likes a plan and I'm not a great improvisational actor, I like to prepare! So if I'd been totally caught off guard, I probably would have said something weird! It was really beautiful and I'm very lucky."
