Home and Away's Tane Parata to risk police trouble in baby storyline

Tane's determination to be a father lands him in trouble.

Upcoming scenes in Home and Away will see Tane Parata risk police trouble as he struggles to keep his distance from abandoned baby Maia.

Recent episodes saw Tane stunned to discover the infant in a gym bag while walking along the beach, with the personal trainer determined to look after the child until her parents can be located.

However, Tane's growing attachment is discouraged by those around him and scenes airing this week in Australia (May for UK viewers) will see Tane risk getting himself in trouble after he refuses to keep his distance.

Tane has applied to be an emergency foster carer to Maia in order to avoid her being sent into the government system.

After learning that Maia has developed a high temperature, Tane rushes to the hospital against the advice of nurse Dana – only to be confronted by doctors and the police ordering him to stay away.

Tane knows he must comply with the police's orders. However, he struggles to keep away from the child due to his desperation to be a dad. Will Tane land himself in further trouble?

Speaking to TV Week about the storyline, Tane actor Ethan Browne said: "He believes he's the only one who truly cares for her, and is worried she won't be put into a loving home.

"He's running on instinct, which is to protect Maia and provide a loving and stable home."

Tane's quest to become Maia's foster carer receives a setback after he becomes the target of salacious gossip making its way around Summer Bay.

While at the hospital, Tane is handed a copy of a newspaper by Harper, who apologetically revealed that her sister Dana had been tricked into talking to a journalist who has now written a story calling Tane obsessed with the child.

Later on, the same journalist visits the hospital looking for further answers, with Tane's temper getting the better of him as he lashes out in anger.

The journalist then leaves the hospital, but not without lodging a formal complaint against Tane.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.
