Home and Away fans receive warning from popular cast member
"A lot of women are getting scammed and catfished."
Home and Away star Nicholas Cartwright has warned fans of catfishes pretending to be him on social media.
The star, who plays Cash Newman on the Australian soap, took to his Instagram Stories this week to clarify that he is not behind any accounts using his likeness to message fans.
"Hello, Nick here," he began. "Look, guys, I don’t normally like to make these sorts of announcement things but a lot of women are getting scammed and catfished by profiles on Facebook using my image.
"I’ve been getting messages about it, but I’ve been hoping that it would just go away, but it’s not."
Cartwright explained that people are now contacting his managers and family, before noting that his verified Instagram account is his only social media, which he "hardly" uses.
"Long story short, I apologise to anyone who’s getting scammed," he added. "Not that it’s my fault, but I hope that you’re okay, and I just want you to know that I’m not talking to anyone, or asking anybody for money, or asking anybody out or trying to get married to anybody in New Zealand."
In other news, tomorrow night's episode of Home and Away will see Cartwright's character Cash make a bold move against the River Boys.
When Justin tips off Cash about how one of the River Boys was looking for Theo and it seemed strange, Cash tries to get some information from Theo and senses that something is up when Theo is dismissive.
Later on, the copper takes action by planting a tracker on the River Boys' car.
