Hollyoaks confirms two huge character returns in dangerous escape plot
Mercedes is in for a shock...
Hollyoaks has confirmed Bobby Costello's dangerous return plot – with Goldie McQueen coming back to the village soon after.
Last month, we exclusively revealed that Mercedes' son Bobby would be coming back to the show, with Zak Sutcliffe taking over the role from Jayden Fox.
In 2023, the teen was given a lengthy prison sentence for the murder of Silas Blissett and the attempted murder of DeMarcus Westwood – though he also killed Verity Hutchinson – and he is currently in a juvenile detention centre.
But Bobby is set to make a surprise return to the village, and Mercedes is forced to grapple with her son's latest bad decision.
Next week, the McQueens set about throwing a 'screw you cancer' party for Mercedes, who recently finished her chemotherapy treatment.
"Prince is unsure about the timing of this celebration," explains our source, "but at that moment, Mercedes walks in on the surprise. However, when she realises that the party was the idea of her former partner Freddie, who she thinks is dead, she decides to go ahead with it.
"But as planning is in full swing, Mercedes is distracted by a text message, and she starts acting suspiciously."
At the party itself, Myra McQueen gives a heartfelt speech for her daughter, but the event soon comes to a halt. Later, Donny Clark arrives and quietly tells Mercedes and Myra that Bobby has escaped the secure home – likely in a social worker's car.
But it seems Mercedes is already in contact with her son, as she leaves a voicemail explaining a plan and later finds Bobby hiding in The Dog.
"It's an incredibly emotional reunion for the pair," our insider says. "Bobby is keen to apologise to his mum for everything he's done, but Mercedes is clear that he needs to hand himself in and continue to do his time behind bars."
Meanwhile, Tony Hutchinson is upset when he hears that Bobby has escaped, as the teen killed his half-sister Verity.
He isn't the only hurt party, as Goldie then makes a dramatic return – with Chelsee Healey officially rejoining the soap after her maternity leave. As Bobby previously left her adoptive half-brother Sylver McQueen to die, Goldie wants to make sure he finishes his punishment.
With Bobby hiding in The Dog, Tony orders the construction workers to start repairs on the pub, meaning his secret hiding place is under threat.
Mercedes' task is to get Bobby out of the village, under the close eye of Donny, and before the pub is otherwise occupied. Will she be able to protect her son?
