"Who knows what will happen?"
Actor Nina Wadia has said that she'd love to return to the world of soap more than 12 years after last playing Zainab Masood in EastEnders, but not necessarily stepping back onto Albert Square. In fact, what she'd really like to do is to join Coronation Street.
"I'd love to tread the cobbles. That would be a lot of fun," she said (via the Daily Star), teasing that she's got a link to the ITV series.
"I know a couple of the Corrie cast, but I wouldn't put them under pressure to help me get a role!" she added.
While she did appear on Doctors back in 2023, shortly before it was axed by the BBC, Wadia said that she "[hasn't] been offered any soap roles lately", but she's keeping an open mind.
"Who knows what will happen?" she said.
Reflecting on what it's like to be working in the fast-paced world of soaps, the actor said that it is a tough environment but actually enjoys that.
"Being on a soap is very busy. But I love hard work. That's what I thrive on," she explained, adding that it allows a performer to really flesh out the roles they play.
"When you're on a soap, you get the chance to develop your character during a workshop at the start," Wadia explained. "Then because you're living the character, you find out more about them."
Although there aren't any soap appearances on the horizon, Wadia has got plenty of things in the pipeline to keep her busy, including a medium that's brand-new to her.
"I've got projects lined up for next year. I'll be doing my first ever video game," she stated, although she didn't say what game it is.
Earlier this year, Wadia explained that she left EastEnders because the storylines has gotten "so ridiculous and so difficult" and even asked to be killed off, but producers decided to leave the door open for a potential return.
And she said that she would return to Walford, as long as she had "something more interesting" to do than she had before.
