Former Home and Away favourite Tammin Sursok has lifted the lid on how she's built the best body, health and strength of her life at age 42 - after a shock diagnosis gave her a 'wake up call'.

The Australian actress, who shot to fame playing Dani Sutherland on the iconic Channel Seven soap from 2000 to 2004, shared a video with her 1.3million followers detailing the lessons that changed everything for her.

Tammin moved to the US almost two decades ago before returning home and is now a mum to daughters Phoenix, 11, and Lennon, six, with husband Sean McEwen.

And while she's worked in Hollywood, starred in Pretty Little Liars, and navigated motherhood on two continents, she says nothing prepared her for the misinformation she had to confront to finally feel strong and confident in her 40s.

Just months ago, Tammin revealed she'd been hit with a health scare after being diagnosed with genetic prediabetes - a wake-up call that pushed her to overhaul her routine.

Determined to take control, she committed to three months of consistent strength training, which she said transformed both her body and her blood sugar levels.

The actress now credits weight training for improving her insulin sensitivity, boosting her metabolism and reshaping her physique from the inside out.

'When I was younger I weighed 170 pounds (77kg),' she told followers.

Just months ago, Tammin revealed she'd been hit with a health scare after being diagnosed with genetic pre diabetes - a wake-up call that pushed her to overhaul her routine One day I decided to change my life with whole foods and movement and I lost 50 pounds (23kg).'

'I am now back on my fitness journey trying to stay active and healthy, but I am honestly shocked at how many things I was told that were simply not true. Through real experience, here are the top ten lies I had to unlearn.'

What followed was a refreshingly honest breakdown of the myths she says held her back for years, as well as the evidence-backed truths she now swears by.

The actress began with debunking the idea that lifting weights 'makes you bulky'.

Building muscle is actually very hard and requires progressive overload and enough protein. Weights make you strong, not bulky.'

On cardio, she admitted she spent years believing it was the key to fitness, until she realised the opposite.

'Too much cardio can spike cortisol and make you feel worse. Strength training creates better long-term results for energy and body composition.'

She also warned that eating less isn't the answer, advising that everyone's body's need 'fuel to burn fuel'.

When I cut calories too low or removed whole food groups, my progress stalled,' she revealed.

Like many women, she once believed carbs were the enemy, but now says they're essential for her energy, hormones, and mood.

'Choosing the right ones and pairing them with protein changes everything.'

Sleep, she said, is one of her biggest non-negotiables, and she emphasised that hormones (especially in women) should not be ignored.

'Hormones influence metabolism, mood, cravings, and muscle growth. Ignoring them makes the journey harder than it needs to be.'

Tammin also addressed the pressure many women feel around aesthetics, adding that real health to her comes down to strength, energy, and resilience - not a single aesthetic.

As well as health, exercise and diet tips, she also encouraged women to let go of perfectionism and embrace consistency instead, crediting 'small choices repeated daily create real change.'

The actress said she prioritises strength training, daily walks, and adding protein to every meal, admitting that she has become 'relentlessly consistent' with her habits - even on busy filming days or while travelling with her family.

She's also spoken openly about her struggles with anxiety and body image over the years, something that made her recent transformation feel even more powerful.

For Tammin, it's no longer about chasing a number on the scales or looking like she did at 20.

Instead, she is focused on feeling strong, recovered, energised and capable, helping to encourage other women, particularly those over 35, to rethink everything they've been told.
