 "The chapter feels closed."

Hollyoaks star Ross Adams has shared a bittersweet update on his character, Scott Drinkwell. The actor played the role for just under a decade before leaving in 2024, with the star pursuing other projects since then.

Scott's final scenes aired in July of that year, with the beloved character embarking on a new life in Spain. While some fans were left disappointed by his "rushed" departure, others were relieved that he wasn't killed-off after butting heads with serial killer Jez Blake.

With Scott currently living his best life abroad, there's still a possibility for his return to the village. However, in an interview with The Sun, Adams issued a disappointing update about his future on the Channel 4 soap.

"I always say 'never say never', but I do feel like that chapter has genuinely closed for me now," the actor shared. "Particularly with the lovely Alex Fletcher — who played Diane [Hutchinson] — leaving. She was such an integral part of my family unit on the show."

While it seems unlikely that Scott will be back to support his auntie Diane amid her terminal cancer diagnosis, Adams did admit that he missed his character and was "grateful" to have portrayed him on-screen.

When you play a character for 10 years, it's really difficult to just shake them off," he said. "It sounds like a cliché to say I'll always be grateful, but I genuinely will be — being a regular in a soap was everything I'd ever wanted... That was my life goal."

Though the star dashed any hopes for an upcoming return, he did lay out his terms for a future comeback. He explained that he would only be interested in reprising his role for a "proper stint", rather than a short cameo.

If I did go back, I wouldn't want to do a one-episode cameo. I'd want to go back for a proper stint," he said. "But I think a lot of recent returns have been exactly that, and that's not something I'd be interested in. So, never say never, but the chapter feels closed."

While it doesn't look likely that Adams will be returning to Cheshire any time soon, the drama continues on the soap, with a tense cliffhanger involving Clare Devine and Froggy Black potentially leading to a devastating death.
