Nicole da Silva is headed to Summer Bay.
Home and Away has added an Aussie acting legend to its cast in a mysterious new role. Nicole da Silva, most famous for her role in prison drama Wentworth, has already begun filming what has been described as a regular role.
The actress, who previously appeared in one episode of the soap back in 2006, will play a doctor named Amelia Carlisle, a new arrival to Summer Bay.
Speaking to The West Australian, Nicole described having to keep her new role a secret, which was no mean feat given the enormous popularity of Wentworth down under.
"In the early days of filming up at Palm Beach (Home and Away’s set), I had fans come out of the woodwork, and I’d hear my name being called out (while on set).
"I tried to avoid their questions and the cameras, but unfortunately, there were whispers going around."
When asked about who her character will be interacting with, Nicole said: "I am not allowed to name names yet.
"It’s all a bit secret-squirrels, and an 'in the cone of silence' kind of situation.
"But all will be revealed soon — and I think audiences are going to get a real kick out of who I cross paths with in Summer Bay."
Following the end of Wentworth, Nicole starred in another popular Aussie series, Doctor Doctor, ending her run as Charlie Knight in 2021.
Explaining why she decided to join the cast of Home and Away, Nicole said: "My reasons are twofold, or maybe even threefold.
"To be honest, it was a great opportunity, and it came at exactly the right time: I am a single parent, and to be able to live and work in Sydney, where I am raising my daughter, meant we could stay around our community, (and be around) our friends and our family.
Wentworth, known as Wentworth Prison in the UK, ran from 2013 to 2021. It was a modern-day reimagining of 80s prison drama Prisoner.
The series was added to Channel 5's streaming service earlier this year, with all 100 episodes available to watch for free.
