Tammin Sursok has exposed the brutal reality of working as a professional actor after failing to score the lead role in a TV series.
The Australian star, 42, who is best known for her roles on Home and Away and Pretty Little Liars, took to Instagram with a teary-eyed video on Tuesday after learning she had been passed over for the role.
'I just got word I didn't get an acting job that I was down to the wire for the lead for a TV show. This happens a lot,' the mother-of-two said as tears began to run down her face.
'The amount of times it's been, like, me and another girl... my whole career.';
Tammin, who is an outspoken advocate for mental health, said rejection is common in her industry.
'It's just harder than you think. And people think, like, 'Oh, just get on a show... or do a film.' It's, like, not that easy. And for me it's always down to the last two,' she said.

Tammin simply captioned the video: 'Never gets easier.'

Australian musician Nathan Cavaleri said he could relate to Tammin's struggles, writing: 'From somebody in the music industry putting themselves out there daily, I feel you!'
'Probably the worst time to give advice but an old friend of mine said that every closed door is just directing us on where to go.
'But I suppose the only way to subscribe to that philosophy is to have faith in the unknown, which can be quite difficult.'
Christie Hayes, who played Sursok's sister in Home and Away, meanwhile wrote: 'I'm so sorry honey, be so proud of yourself for how close you got, and remember you are already a leading lady.'
'You have been the lead on TV shows before, you will be the lead on the next one. This was a huge win even though it hurts.'
American actress and TV personality Heather Dubrow also wrote: 'I feel you sister - sending you love and I know you know this … but your next big thing is out there.'
Elsewhere, American actress Marcia Cross offered: 'Been there. It will happen. But yes it hurts. And then one day…'
It comes days after Tammin revealed a harrowing health ordeal that she has been struggling with for a year.
In an Instagram video last week, Tammin told fans that she 'really needed to heal her gut' after being plagued with heartburn and nausea symptoms for 12 months, which she said were triggered by certain foods.
'So about a year ago, I was having this chronic clearing my throat issue and then I, after certain foods, I would get this burning sensation like heartburn and then nausea and all these things,' she said.
'I went to the doctor and they want to do an endoscopy, but they think it's called gastritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach lining.'
Tammin added that she was surprised by the doctor's hypothesis, given how well she looks after her health.
'[It's] so bananas because I really take care of myself – don't drink alcohol and all these things. And I know that anyone can get gastritis so it's not just based on that,' she said.
'But I really think that I have to start healing my insides. And I think a lot of what we put in our bodies has all this extra stuff that we don't know what's going on.'
Tammin rounded out her post urging followers suffering from gastritis to offer tips on how to 'heal the situation'.
