Richie (Rocco Forrester-Sach) is facing the consequences of his catastrophic mistake, when the investigation into Summer Bay’s crime wave took a horrifying turn.
As David stepped in to stop the situation escalating any further, Richie pulled the trigger and accidentally shot his boss in the abdomen.
Next week, David wakes up in hospital, bringing huge relief for Jo and Lacey. His first concern is for his daughters, but Amelia can see that he’s far from okay himself despite putting on a brave face.
Cash explains that the matter is being handled by the conduct commission, but Lacey doesn’t see that as enough. David wasn’t hurt by one of the criminals he was trying to catch—he was nearly killed by one of his own officers.
Meanwhile, Richie’s barely holding himself together.
Abby tries to stand by him, but Cash has serious doubts about whether Richie can cope with the pressure of the job after everything that’s happened, pointing out that he officers like him can’t be trusted.
Back in Summer Bay, Richie starts to unravel, convinced that his police career could be over before it has properly begun. Abby tries to convince him that losing the job wouldn’t mean losing himself, but Richie is too overwhelmed to hear it and asks for space.
When Lacey gets worked up over Richie’s visit to David, Abby tries to calm the situation by reminding her that the shooting was an accident. But her attempt to explain Richie’s side only makes things worse, especially when she suggests David got in the way.
Then comes the blow Abby wasn’t expecting.
Abby is hurt, pointing out that Richie doesn’t get to decide what she deserves, but he leaves with Cash all the same.
She had genuinely believed Richie could be the one, only for him to walk away just as she was trying to stand by him.
Eden covers Abby’s shift at Salt and sends her home, but she’s not comfortable leaving her alone for the rest of the day. With Cash away supporting Richie at the hearing, she reluctantly turns to Remi (Adam Rowland) for help.
Remi isn’t convinced he’s the right person for the job, knowing that Abby usually has no patience for him.
The evening takes a more sincere turn when Remi tells Abby she deserves someone who actually sees how great she is. Abby is caught off guard by the kindness, admitting it may be the nicest thing he has ever said to her.
The next morning, Abby continues the unexpected show of gratitude by cooking Remi breakfast before work.
Could Abby’s heartbreak over Richie have sparked an unexpected crush on Remi?
