Kahu is all about fun and no responsibility, which makes his TAFE studies a problem. Eager to please his cousin, Kahu agrees to do the course. However, Kahu's relaxed veneer is a front. Hiding a phone call to his mum, Kahu lies that he's working on a successful fishing trawler.

Crying poor, Kahu asks Tane to loan him the $1,500 TAFE course fees upfront. Can Tane trust Kahu's motives?

Meanwhile, worried about leaving Bree alone, Remi asks Cash to keep an eye on her while Lyrik is on tour. Bree realises that her apprehension about Remi's departure is triggering trauma from her long-distance abusive marriage. Things with Remi are different, but Bree's traumatised behaviour remains unchanged. Can she get past this?

Elsewhere, Justin is downcast about his first day of community service. With Cash in charge, Justin is quickly singled out as the cop's friend. Among a bunch of petty criminals, that's not a good first impression. Justin starts to make enemies, but he's got to keep his anger under control.

Also today, Xander is determined to quit the ambulance service, but Rose thinks he's making a rash decision. Despite his surgical stitches, Xander pushes through pain for his first taste of freedom – out in the surf. Xander dismisses Bree and Rose's concern for his recovery as pedantic.
