Is it time for Remi to let Bree go?
Home and Away kicks off Bree Cameron's exit storyline next week – as she's encouraged to apply for a life-changing career opportunity. But there's one person in the Bay who isn't ready to see her go just yet…
The Summer Bay soap aired Bree's final scenes in Australia last November, but she has remained on screen in the UK due to the transmission gap between the two countries. In upcoming scenes, Channel 5 viewers get the first on-screen clues that Bree's future lies elsewhere.
Next week's episodes open with great news for Bree, who lets her hospital colleagues know that everyone in the Emergency Department will soon receive personal alarms. This follows Bree's crusade to better protect the staff after her recent stabbing ordeal.
Bree initially tells Dana Matheson, who's quick to spread the word among everyone else at work. A joyous celebration begins and Dana makes an uplifting speech about Bree's courage, but the occasion is soon interrupted when Bree receives a mysterious call..
Bree is contacted by Doctors Without Borders, who are encouraging her to apply," our Home and Away insider explains. "It's not the first time that Bree has been in discussions with the organisation, but she previously turned down the opportunity to work with them because there was too much keeping her in the Bay.
"As that's not really the case anymore, Bree excitedly reveals to Dana that she's thinking of going for it."
Bree also confides in her friend Sonny Baldwin, but asks him to keep it secret from her ex-partner Remi Carter while she properly thinks things through.
It's clear that Bree is taking this very seriously, as she works on a list of pros and cons. When it turns out that the list only contains pros, the outcome of the dilemma seems obvious.
Mindful of how Remi might react, Bree has a quiet word with him on the Salt balcony. Remi's gutted by the news that Bree might move away, but decides to be supportive by hiding his true feelings.
It's only when Remi speaks to Sonny that the extent of his misery becomes clear – he'd always hoped that he and Bree would end up back together, but this seems to close the door on the possibility. Sonny is brutally honest in response, urging Remi to see that a reunion simply isn't going to happen.
"Remi disagrees and takes his hopes directly to Bree," our insider adds. "He asks her not to take the job, as there could be another chance for them if she stays."
