"She feels like she was completely abandoned."

Hollyoaks star Rebecca Ryan has explained her character Beth Keane's painful past and has revealed how it plays into her rage towards the Osborne family and dad Jack.

Beth is the daughter of Dawn Cunningham, after she had an affair with her best friend Ruth Osborne's father, Jack. However, Beth was adopted and never formed a relationship with her father or half-siblings, including Darren Osborne.

Now back in Hollyoaks village with her own family, Beth has raged at the Osbornes after their adoptive son Charlie Dean caused a car crash which paralysed her stepson Caleb Keane.

Next week, Caleb is set to continue his budding romance with Frankie Osborne – but Beth won't approve the union.

However, in an exclusive chat with Inside Soap, Rebecca stated that her disdain for Frankie and Caleb's budding romance runs deeper than the fact that they're practically cousins.

"She will not be happy with that at all. At all!" said Rebecca. "Obviously, the crash is the main thing, but also, I think it’s the rejection that she feels from Jack. It's a deeper level of hurt, she feels like she was completely abandoned and Jack and Darren never bothered to get in touch with her, and they’ve not really had this relationship.

"Everyone else can probably get over it, but she is really struggling with that because of the underlying issues with her family."

Despite animosity on screen, Rebecca asserted that working with soap legend Jimmy McKenna, who plays Jack, has been an absolute dream so far.

"Honestly, I can’t tell you how amazing that guy is," gushed Rebecca. "He made me feel so at ease straight away. He is just the loveliest, most gorgeous man, and it’s been so brilliant getting to work with him.

"I’m so glad that I play his daughter and he just brightens up the whole day – if he comes in, everyone’s in a better mood!"
