Hollyoaks confirms worrying Abigail scenes as new romance plot explodes

 It comes ahead of a harrowing new storyline.

Abigail Matthews is set to be left heartbroken in upcoming Hollyoaks scenes ahead of a harrowing new storyline. The new character was brought into the soap as Dee Dee Hutchinson's drugs counsellor, and soon found herself swept into drama when she hooked up with Cleo McQueen.

Cleo is currently having an affair with Dodger Savage, who is in a relationship with Cleo's cousin Theresa McQueen.

Dodger was left feeling jealous when he caught Cleo and Abigail together, but their sordid affair behind Theresa's back has continued.

In scenes set to air next week, Cleo and Dodger wake up together and realise their relationship is far more than just sex after they spent the night talking.

However, they experience a close call with Theresa when she calls and asks where Cleo is.

Things become more complicated when Cleo runs into Abigail at The Loft and sparks fly, leading to them hooking up once more.

Cleo and Abigail plan to meet up for drinks at The Dog after spending the night together, but when she realises Abigail is smitten, Cleo calls time on their budding romance as she doesn't want to lead her on.

Abigail puts on a brave face in front of Cleo, but she breaks down in the pub bathroom which is overheard by troubled teen Dee Dee.

Later, the youngster also finds Abigail having a breakdown in her car, and at the same time, Cleo admits the truth about what happened between her and Abigail to Dodger.

It comes ahead of a devastating grooming storyline in the soap in which Abigail will abuse her position of power over Dee Dee.

The hard-hitting new story will see Abigail manipulate the grieving teen, striking up a "friendship" with Dee Dee and strengthening their bond when the school term begins in September.

Dee Dee will become attached to Abigail, vulnerable following the death of her mum Diane Hutchinson, with the storyline aiming to raise awareness of the abuse of power within schools.

Hollyoaks has worked with The Derwent Initiative (TDI) and the NSPCC "to ensure this subject is handled with the utmost care and accuracy".
