Exclusive: Hollyoaks confirms new Ste and Rex drama after wedding joy

Hollyoaks stars Kieron Richardson and Jonny Labey have teased that their characters Ste Hay and Rex Gallagher's relationship could be headed for the rocks once again, as Rex's crossdressing story will be revisited.

Ste and Rex married on screen a few weeks ago – but it was a turbulent road to the altar, as Ste discovered that Rex had secretly been wearing women's clothes.

Although Ste initially opposed Rex's experimentation, he eventually came round and supported Rex on his journey to find himself.

However, it seems that Rex's crossdressing will continue to cause issues for the couple. Chatting exclusively to Inside Soap as part of the magazine's first-ever Pride issue, Kieron and Jonny reveal that despite their marriage having only just begun, there's more difficulties to come for them.

The cross-dressing storyline is revisited again, and Ste has really tried to suppress how he feels about that," reveals Kieron. "In the next chapter, something happens to Rex, so he leans into this and then fabricates a story to pull Ste in a little bit and to almost force him to love him.

"It’s really sad that Rex feels like he has to do that. Ste is trying to be as supportive as he can, and I just don’t think he knows how to handle it."

"Ste goes through such a journey with his understanding and his judgement, what he is actually in love with and what he’s attracted to," Jonny adds.

"Does attraction and sex play into the same feelings you have in terms of how you feel love for someone? Their relationship always has love for each other at its heart, though."
